Lt Missenden v Penn Street Cricket Club PSCC on Sun 20 Jul 2008 at 14:00

Match report
Nine players again and Nick Loftus making his debut as Captain Penn Street took the field against a strong looking Misfits side. The opening bowling attack was rather like losing virginity - lots of probing and prodding but not much penetration. Nevertheless after much encouragement from Wicket keeper Kyle Stephens, Damo made the breakthrough bowling the opener for forty. The second wicket proved harder to come by as Penn Street nemesis Hugh Connor and the no.3 put on a century despite tidy spells from each of the bowlers. In need of some luck skipper Loftus chucked the ball to Banny who went for 20 in his first 8 balls! Switching to seam up and alternating between wides, long hops and Jaffa’s a somewhat embarrassed Matt walked off the field at tea with 4-39 from 4 over’s! Cue smiles through gritted teeth from Damo, Goody and Nick.
Penn Street replied after tea chasing a score of 239 and it came as a surprise to see Banny play on to make it 22-1. Worse was to follow as Usman's second ball duck and Damo missing one that kept low left Penn Street perilously on 25-3. Enter Nick Loftus to play a real captains innings in tandem with Karl, batting out twenty over’s and putting on over a hundred before Kyle fell for a steady 47. Nick was now left with Goody and the juniors to survive fifteen overs. Rather than pad up for the draw Nick went on the offensive and carted the bowling round the ground for 11 fours and a six even smashing the opening bowler back past his head. With five overs left he unfortunately was bowled for a fantastic but unlucky 93. With Ryan for company Goody managed to bat out the next few over before Ryan edged the opening bowler to slip. With nine balls left Tyler Abear came out as the last wicket and managed to block three balls from the quick quite comfortably and as Goody batted out the last over Penn Street walked away with a hard fought victory which was testament to a never say die spirit. Good stuff!
