Crown Wood v Penn Street Cricket Club PSCC on Sat 20 Sep 2008 at
Penn Street Cricket Club Lost
Match report
The Street had just 8 players take to the field after a few mishaps before the game. Cherriott lost the toss and was put in the field. From the outset the ball was swinging like Dean Martin in the Rat Pack and batting looked like it would be hard work. Nick Loftus made the initial breakthrough with an unplayable delivery that bowled the opener round his legs, followed up by another wicket in the next over. Cherriott was toiling away at the other end but to no avail so enter High Tower to the fray. Grant immediately had the Crown Wood batsmen jumping about like a House Of Pain tribute band. Nick continued at the other end and continued to take wickets and also took a stonker at gully to seal the fate of the Crown’s top order. Drinks were taken at the halfway stage with the home side 52 for 5! Grant continued to menace the batsmen while Banny did his best to keep them calm with a lovely buffet at the other end! Andrew Crofts then joined the party and picked up a couple of useful wickets helped by a great catch by Tyler Abear. With the innings coming to a close, the batsmen started to open their shoulders at the expense of Cherriott's figures until Tyler pulled off another great catch to wrap up the Crown Woods innings. 172 All Out and all to play for……
Juppy and Banny opened the innings knowing they needed to pull something special out of the bag. Things started well with Juppy spanking the ball back over the bowlers' head for 4 in the first over. But then disaster! Juppy got onto one a bit quick and popped a gentle catch back to mid off. This brought Rob Sutherland to the crease. Rob didn’t have the best of games in the field so was determined to make up for missed opportunities. Things were going swimmingly until Rob was bowled one of those “once in a lifetime deliveries”. Golden balls Loftus was next man in and seeming to have the Midas touch today, expectations were high. Both Nick and Banny were looking very comfortable at the crease but when “The Sri-Lankan” entered the attack things changed. He put a strangle hold on The Street's batsmen that led to a few false shots resulting in the demise of the rest of the batsmen apart from Grant “High Tower” Henry and Tyler “Grizzly” Abear. Between them they put the bowlers to the sword with Tyler hitting three 4s in a single over and scoring a career best 15 runs.
We finally fell 40 runs short, and I know I often say this but a GREAT Penn St performance considering fielding just 8 men……
