High Wycombe v Penn Street Cricket Club PSCC on Sun 09 May 2021 at 1pm
Penn Street Cricket Club Won by 9 Wickets

Match report 'Devastating' Tollerfield shows class against HWCC.

It was one of those occasions where you can only look on in awe when Josh Tollerfield and Dave Jones went out to bat having restricted the hosts to 238-5 from their 40 overs.

In a fielding display that showed excellent patience and generally accurate bowling, PSCC largely limited HWCC scoring options in the first 20 overs. Ben Hobbs was pick of the bowlers, and bowled an accurate, pacy line outside of off stump with the new ball, earning himself a wicket in his first over. A second wicket partnership of 138 then followed for HWCC although Penn Street never let the batsmen get on top of them and Jamie Fryer was eventually rewarded for his persistence with the wicket of J.Hill who fell one short of what would have been an excellent century. Jeremy Knox is quickly becoming a go to for picking up wickets and indeed he did the business with 2 in two balls during his second spell, including the prized wicket of G. Lasselter who had previously amassed 48 from 39 deliveries. It was good to also see Chris Russell get some overs under his belt (although he may not feel the same way) and also good to welcome Farooq Hussein for his debut (2 overs, no wickets for 13). Josh Tollerfield bowled well at the death, with his variations to restrict the scoring in the final overs.

Scything, punching, driving and generally brutalising the bowling is quickly become a staple at the top of the order for our pinch hitting openers. An opening partnership of 123 in just 12 overs demonstrated the hitting power of both Jones and Tollerfield, although Tollerfield outscored Jones through their 12 over stand. It took an excellent catch on a a short leg side boundary to remove Jones for 47, another start that he will be disappointed not to capitalise on. This brought Dave Hewes (8 not out) to the crease, although he was largely a spectator as Tollerfield continued to pummel the ball to all parts, making light work of what turned out to be modest total for the hosts. Tollerfield was destructive with every delivery offered to him, reaching his hundred with a huge 6 over mid off (one of 6 sixes, to go with 28 fours). He hardly gave the bowling side a chance as he continued to batter his way to the total.

Josh deserves all the plaudits for this win, as well as the new PSCC shirt promised to him by Izzy (his mum) if he scored a century.
