Penn Street Juniors vs High Wycombe U8s

Following our first match of the season round the corner at the Hit or Miss, we welcomed High Wycombe to the common.

Coached by former Penn Steet junior Tyler Armiger, Wycombe chose to bowl which meant Penn Street would be batting first with Luka and Tomas taking on the task. The start was steady with some early singles from the pair, but the highlight was one over with three boundaries and a six!

Finn and Jack were up next who had a bumpy start with an early run out but they both settled well with Finn hitting a lovely straight four and Jack attempting an audacious scoop shot! Not sure this has been part of Wednesday night training?! Ameilia and Luella came in as the third pair who again had a slow start but they soon started accumulating runs with arguably the shot of the day from Luella with a glorious cover drive for four runs!

Peter and Harrison followed, and both contributed runs to a total which was close to 300 with Max and Alfie taking us to a healthy final total of 355. Brilliant score from Penn Street and well done to High Wycombe for a great effort in the field.

Following a tasty snack and squash at the halfway stage (Peppa Pig cookies) a masterstroke) we took the field for the second innings with Peter and Ameila taking the first overs, helping to restrict Wycombe early on. Everyone bowled excellently with highlights being a superb catch from Jack as well as a fine delivery from Luka resulting in a Tomas catch behind the stumps. Textbook cricket from the pair! Wycombe would end up on 262 which was a fantastic effort considering it was a first game for many of their players.
