100 Not Out

06 Aug 2014

And so, its finally over.

14 cyclists from Penn Street Cricket Club cycled almost 200 miles to lay a wreath at Menin Gate on the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War. It was a wonderful experience that will stay with us forever.

- the wonderful send-off at Penn St war memorial
- the photo-call at Lords
- the welcome at RBL HQ
- starting to cycle strongly as a team, guided by the RBL outriders
- the wonderful welcome at Lille Cricket Club, including a surprise guest appearance from our President
- the impromptu Penn St vs Rest of the World football match
- the entry beneath the Menin Gate
- and finally, the honour of laying a wreath at the Menin Gate with the Penn St flag flying proudly alongside, whilst simultaneously wreaths are laid back at Penn Street where it all began several days ago

We met with great support along the way, and wonderful hospitality. There were no major accidents or mishaps, as so easily could have happened on such a journey. Everyone is back now, or travelling forward, safe and sound.

Through Justgiving alone, almost £6,000 has been raised for RBL and Help for Heroes. That's before you add in donations in the pub, the boat and along the way directly into the RBL collection tins, plus cheques that have still to be processed. Incredible support throughout. https://www.justgiving.com/teams/100-not-out

Thanks to everyone who took part, who organised, who supported, who cheered us on from the side. A true team effort that proves that we may be small, but we are still a Particularly Special Cricket Club

All the very best
